Summer University

Summer University is a project organized by AEGEE locals such as AEGEE-Zagreb during the summer time period. In the course of the two weeks it commonly lasts local organizers host other AEGEE members from all around Europe.

Idea supporting the project is that young people studying and living in the city understand best how to present it to other youth like themselves, and would know what would be most interesting to see, try out or discover. The aim is to let the hosts show you what you normally wouldn't be able find out for yourselves. A fee of roughly 80 euros/week covers lodging, breakfast plus at least one warm meal per day and a daily schedule filled with activities – adventures, dares, sightseeing, contests, games and workshops your organizers prepared, but ultimately most comes from the heart and good will you manage to bring with you.

Types of lodging provided on the SU’s can vary: tents, sleeping bags and a gym, hostels, hotels, private lodging, student dormitories, it all depends on the organizers idea and the theme of the Summer University. Can you envision yourself sleeping in a tent on a soccer field in the Netherlands, or on a beach in Italy after a day of scuba diving...?

Every Summer University has a limited number of participants making a selection necessary. When applying a candidate provides a motivation letter which will be the main factor in the selection process. Each local tends to have a diversified group: different countries, age (18-33), the same number of male and female participants. In the motivation letter it is best to speak freely, simply and pleasantly as the person reading it will be someone like you, a student who will be your friend during this time and later.

The list of Summer Universities to be held is published on the AEGEE web pages and one candidate can choose up to 3 when applying. The decision which of many Summer Universities a candidate will choose can be based upon different things: a country or city you want to visit, what dates suit you best, which Summer University description or organizers do you like the best and so on. Remember to contact your local before applying.
